This is the site where I’ll track my trip across the Midwestern US and Canada during my ride to and from Milwaukee for the Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary celebration.
I’ll use this blog as a way to let people know that I’m OK and to follow my progress as I move across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Lake Michigan, Wisconsin, Ontario, and then back home to New York.
Along with other members of my firm I’ll be working at the 105th, but the trip to and from Milwaukee is purely personal.
The current plan is to leave Westchester County with my riding buddy Joseph Kleinmann, and to ride to my mom’s house in Oxford, Ohio (distance, 711 miles). We expect to do it in 3 days. Joseph will return to Westchester to be ready to start his job as a high school science teacher the following week. I’ll continue to Milwaukee via the Muskegon, MI ferry (distance, 349 miles). I’ll work the event and then return through Canada.
I plan to head north through the upper peninsula of Michigan, and through Ontario to Niagara Falls, before heading southeast through New York State (distance, 1,829 miles).
All in, the trip will cover 2,889 miles, give or take. At roughly 300 miles per day, that’s a fully 10 days on the road, with some breaks. I plan to leave Chappaqua on August 19, and return on September 5, a total of 18 days.
In the run-up to the ride I’ll post updates on plans, timetables, etc.
Stay safe.
Vroom….
Fred

I rode some of those same highways on a bicycle in 1977, Fred, and the 9-week trip was one of the highlights of my life. I’m sure this experience will be for you too. You will delight in the folks you’ll meet along the way, especially given your joy for meeting and sharing with others. Looking forward to following the blog!

Personally I would rather do this trip on horseback, but then again the leather outfit you get to wear is quite compelling. And so Fred, Lex and I will be counting each day off as you peel around North America, hopefully safely, and will be waiting with baited breath for your return and a chance to hear all the stories from the road. Good Luck and Be Safe! Pat

Adventurous as always!!! aware of risk but be safe!!!. Cary and I shall follow your trip only upon our return August 26th as we shall be in Turkey from August 19th, first, revisiting the golden city of Istanbul–after many many years– then discovering with a great friend the Hittite palaces in Antakya, Not a risky trip but one that will be full of stories like you.
Have a great and safe trip.
